If you want to do business with the government in Zimbabwe, PRAZ registration is one of the first and most important requirements you must meet. Many business owners hear about tender opportunities and rush to apply without understanding the rules, documents, and processes involved. This usually leads to delays, disqualifications, or missed opportunities. In this guide, you will learn everything you need to know about PRAZ registration, including what it is, why it matters, how much it costs, and the documents you need to get started.
Back to Basics
To help you understand this better, I'll start by explaining to you a few simple things.
When a public sector buys any goods, works or services, that is called public procurement.
And public sector organisations are those that are financed by public money raised from taxes. Some examples include government ministries, parastatals, local government, rural councils, the army, the police and other emergency services.
So, to give an example when the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works purchases roads equipment, that is Public Procurement.
The next thing you need to know is that Public Procurement is governed by Public Procurement and Disposal of Assets Act (Chapter 22:23).
This is a law that outlines policies on how public procurement is to be conducted in Zimbabwe so that there is more competition and the process is open, fair, honest, and good value for money
Now let's talk about the Zimbabwe Procurement Regulatory Authority (PRAZ).
What Is PRAZ ?
PRAZ is the Authority which is responsible for regulating and setting up controls for how Government Departments, ministries and parastatals procure goods.
Why do you need to get registered with PRAZ ?
How can you tell a soldier when you see one on the street? By what he's wearing, right ?
It's the same thing with tenders. You can't bid on government contracts if you haven't signed up with PRAZ.
When you get your PRAZ registration, it means you are ready to do business with the government.
When you do this, you are automatically added to the Government's database of suppliers, which can be found on the PRAZ website. Also, the name of your business is published in a document called the Government Gazette.
The good thing about this is you kill two birds with one stone. You achieve regulatory compliance and make yourself more visible to government buyers at the same time.
What do you get after you register with PRAZ ?
Once your documents are verified, you will receive your PRAZ Certificate .You can include it with your company's documents as you respond to tenders.
Also, the PRAZ Certificate has a verification code. Government agencies will use that verification code to check whether you are registered.
Another important thing is that you can register in a number of different categories. So, if you have more than one business unit or line of business, you will need more than one PRAZ Certificate.

How long is the PRAZ Certificate valid ?
PRAZ Certificate is valid for one year. In fact, it can go all the way up to December 31 of that year.
Nowadays, the good thing is that you can now register every three months, which makes sense if you are a part- timer in government tenders and want to save money.
How much does it cost?
If you want to register for the whole year , you need a total amount of RTGS $16 000,00 or US$120.00 for local companies and US$850 for foreign companies per category.
If you plan to register per quarter, you need a total amount of RTGS $4 000,00 or US$30.00 for local companies only.
If you want some agencies to help you with that, you might have to pay a little more.
Which documents are required to register for PRAZ ?
It depends on the formation of your company. You can register as an Individual Consultant, Private Limited Company, Private Business Corporation or Partnership / Syndicate / Joint Venture.
Because each one is different, the documentation that is required is different. And you have to scan your documents into PDF format.
If you are using Bank Transfer, don’t forget to include Proof of Payment.

How can I register with PRAZ?
There are three ways you can do that. 1.You can do a walk-in physically at PRAZ offices
2. You can register online. One can sign up online. If you're signing up for the first time, please read these step-by-step instructions on how to sign up on the PRAZ website. OR you can just go directly to the PRAZ portal.
3.There are agents who can help you do that. Of course, that will cost you more money.
What’s next after you register for PRAZ ?
PRAZ registration is your entry point into the government supply chain. Once you understand the process, prepare your documents, and submit your application, you place your business in front of real opportunities to supply goods, provide services, or complete projects for public institutions. To increase your chances of success, stay compliant, renew your certificate on time, and constantly look for tender opportunities that match your capability. Becoming PRAZ-registered is not just a requirement — it is a strategic step toward consistent business growth through government contracts
